WELDING

Highly skilled and qualified welders, allied with multiple processes including TIG, MIG, spot and stud welding, enable Technicraft to deliver repeatable, superior, quality welding across all types of material. Customers have the choice as to which process best suits their product and Technicraft is always able to offer advice when required.

WHY USE TIG

TIG (tungsten inert gas) welding is a highly skilled process that can be used for thinner gauge materials and on complex delicate assemblies. This process can be used on all types of material and results in a very strong clean weld with easy clean up if necessary. The process of tig welding uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode to melt the metals with an arc produced by an electrical current which is positive/negative on the metal and the opposite through the electrode dependent on the material to be welded and either AC or DC current. An inert gas (argon) is used around the arc to create a protective atmosphere. If filler metal is required, this is done by adding a filler rod to the melted material pool.

WHY USE MIG

TIG (metal inert gas) welding is similar to TIG but uses a consumable electrode such as copper-coated coiled wire. Additional heat is created during the process. This occurs by making the electrode negatively charged and the sheet metal positive. The heat then melts the electrode into the melting metal. Argon is again used to create a protective atmosphere. The process of MIG welding is somewhat easier. The filler wire is fed automatically, which allows the welder to work more quickly. However, this process is generally used on thicker less delicate projects. MIG helps to keep the cost of welding heavier gauge materials down which benefits prices.
